In english we were assigned to write three lyric poems. In class I tried really hard and couldn't think of anything. I tried to think of something strong and meaningful, or something that I am going through. I was unsuccessful. I then began to listen to the class talking. I wrote down some semi random words and phrases that they spoke. I began to find words that stood out in conversation, poetic words with meaning. I began to fill my paper with words. I thought that this prewriting would help me brainstorm what i would write about (this usually works). I could not assemble more than one line with the words I chose. I couldn't find a theme. So there when I was really trying I failed. But now as I sit at the computer with little intent on actually writing, I am very sucsessful and whip out poems like it ain't nothing. - Well kind of. I wrote two poems quicker than I ever have in my life.
Here goes:
Poem numero uno:
It's a mystery what happens beyond the break
Is she stranded on the island of misery
Will she stay wounded for life
we see her painstay far awayget caught up in the wave
no one to catch her when she falls
So self obsessed you don't hear her cries as she drowns
- I was watching beyond the break when I wrote this. I liked how it sounded so I went with it. They work for wavesync, so I dedcided to use the words wave and sink. The sink part didn't fit in but drown did.
Poem Number two:
Some people rock the boat, just for the excitement
Spicing things up, not caring who it hurts, who falls
You make a mess to hide your problems
Causing a commotion, hope it'll be a distraction
You shake things up so others will fall
When they're all down you feel so tall
- I din't mean to rhyme it just came out that way. I heard that rhyming is bad in poetry, but sometimes it just seems right like that.
- I thought this poem up with the tv still on. I think it was the Jonas Brothers who said something about rock. - It sounded like a good word with meaning. I thought of different ways to use it and this is what came to mind.
I hope you enjoyed my poems and my whole life story.
and I hope I finish this tonight because it is due tomorrow.
